The Wheatsheaf Pub is a landmark in Cedar and opened its doors in 1885. The Pub has been owned operated by the Hutt Family since 1978. Art and Marion purchased the Pub and not long after they sponsored a Men's Fastball Team in the Nanaimo Senior Men's Fastball League. This would mark the start of the Hutt's family's long standing sponsorship of Softball in Nanaimo. The Wheatsheaf Pub is the longest standing sponsor of Men's Fastpitch Softball in BC at 34 years. In 1988 Marion passed away and it was her wishes to see green grass across the Road from the Pub. Art proposed to his three children, Brian, Jim and Dee that they would build a softball field. Construction of the park began in 1991 and the first year of operation was 1993. The Park became known as the Wheatsheaf Sports Complex. This unique privately owned 2 field complex is home to over 25 softball games per week. The Wheatsheaf Pub has sponsored teams in the following leagues and promoted the sports of Softball: Nanaimo Senior Men's Fastball League, Nanaimo Slow Pitch League, Nanaimo Mixed Orthodox League, Cedar Minor Softball, Nanaimo Ladies Fastball League, and Nanaimo Ladies Coffee League. In 1995 The Wheatsheaf Pub won the Softball BC Sponsor of the Year at the AGM in Nanaimo. Art has also since past away and the Pub continues to be run by their 3 children. They are honoured every May with the Art and Marion Hutt Memorial Men's Fastball tournament where teams from across BC play on the fields that they built
