Rick Mercer Report Confirmed to Broadcast at OIWFA Provincial Championships
 
GUELPH, ON -The Ontario Intercollegiate Women’s Fast Pitch Association (OIWFA) is pleased to announce the Rick Mercer Report (RMR) will be filming for the show on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the OIWFA Provincial Championships at Stronach Park in London, Ontario. The Provincial Championships will host the top eight (of twelve) teams over the three-day Championships held in London.

Late last week, Rick Mercer Report producers confirmed that the show will be on site throughout the day this Saturday to broadcast the league and sport of Softball- Fast Pitch. RMR was interested in partnering with the OIWFA to showcase what the league has been doing for over 11 years in providing female student-athletes with the opportunity to play competitive Softball while attending an Ontario University, despite not receiving recognition as a varsity sport. A majority of OIWFA athletes in the league are pay-to-play athletes, which was a major interest for the show.

“This is a great opportunity for us to show the entire country what competitive Softball is all about and further establishes our league as a major contributor to the game in Canada.  I really believe RMR was interested in our league because of the dedication and passion our over 200 athletes give to the sport and takes our perspective back to the age old adage of ‘for the love of the game”  ” said Matt Allen, OIWFA President.

RMR will be filming technical portions of Softball with OIWFA athletes throughout the day at Stronach Park and will be involved in one of the final games on Saturday afternoon. RMR has asked that media please hold on interviews, phone calls, or further requests until the show will be aired in which time the OIWFA will make this announcement. Fans are encouraged to attend the filming at Stronach Park but are reminded that Rick will have a full schedule of filming with OIWFA athletes, coaches, and executive and are asked to refrain from causing delays in the program via photo shoots and autographs.

The RMR filming will coincide with a live video streaming of the Provincial Championships online at www.oiwfa.org .  A total of nine games will be streamed online Presented by Cornerstone Courier in Kitchener, Ontario. The live streaming, full updates and the tournament schedule will be available on the OIWFA website.
