2012 Softball Canada Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet - November 10

Softball Canada Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet to be Webstreamed
(Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada is extremely pleased to announce that it will provide a live video stream of its Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet, which will take place at 7:00pm MST (9:00pm EST) on Saturday, November 10 in Calgary, AB. This will be the first time Softball Canada will be streaming its annual banquet, which will allow viewers from across the country (and around the world) to watch the award presentations and Hall of Fame inductions.

The Banquet will be held in conjunction with the Softball Canada Congress and Annual General Meeting, which will take place from November 8-10. As previously announced, Stan Hay (Official, Alberta), Mike Piechnik (Athlete, British Columbia), Bryan Sosnowski (Athlete, Alberta) and the 1990-93 Lloydminster Junior A Liners (Team, Alberta) will be inducted into the Softball Canada Hall of Fame during this Banquet. Doug Chase (Athlete, British Columbia) was inducted at the Softball BC Awards banquet on October 20th due to his involvement as an assistant coach of the Junior Men's National Team, who will be competing in Argentina until November 10th.
The Home Run Sports Coach of the Year award will be presented to Mike Soucy from Irma, Alberta. Mike has been coaching softball for over 15 years, and this year, seven players of his players competed for a spot on the Junior Men's National Team with six players making the team. Mike capped off his 2012 season by leading his Irma Tigers to the gold medal at the U18 Men's Canadian Championship but there were many team successes prior to this at various Provincial Championships, Alberta Summer Games and Western Canadian Championships over the years
Joyce Bellini, from St-Hubert, Quebec, has been selected as the recipient of the Home Run Sports Umpire of the Year award. Joyce has been actively umpiring for 41 years, and has attained her Level V certification in Fastpitch as well as Level IV in Slo-Pitch. This past year, she was selected to umpire at the ISF XIII Women's World Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon, and also worked the Quebec Games and the Plate division of the U18 Women's Canadian Championship in Montreal.
The Rose Hodgson Volunteer of the Year award will be presented to Gerri Dornstauder from Calgary, Alberta. Gerri has been involved as a volunteer with several softball organizations in the Calgary area over the last 38 years. She is a Level III softball coach who organizes and delivers softball clinics, NCCP courses and seminars, and also supervises provincial championships and Learn to Play clinics. Gerri is also the Softball Alberta administrative representative in Calgary and has been an integral part of the Calgary Women's Fast Pitch Association executive for many years.
This year's recipients of the Claude Deschamps Memorial Fund are Cassandra Dypchey from Surrey, British Columbia and Ty Sebastian from Brussels, Ontario.
Cassandra Dypchey, a third year student in the Department of Arts (Art History and Sociology) at the University of British Columbia, played with Team BC this summer in preparation for the 2013 Canada Summer Games and is also a member of UBC's varsity softball team. In addition to playing, Cassandra was also an assistant coach for the White Rock Renegades 2000 team.
Ty Sebastian has just recently begun his first year of a Business Degree at Lambton College located in Sarnia, Ontario. He won a Gold medal at the U19 Men's Canadian Fastpitch Championship in Fredericton, NB last year and was named Top Player of the Championship Round. This past summer, he competed at the U21 Men's Canadian Championship and was named to the tournament All-Star Team.
The Ethel Boyce Memorial Award will be awarded to Robin Mackin from Newmarket, Ontario and Brendon Bonnor from Greensville, Ontario.
Robin Mackin is currently pursuing her Medical Degree at the University of Ottawa. A member of the Canadian Women's National Team from 2005 to 2009 and a 2008 Olympian, Mackin was forced to retire due to injury. She has since returned to the game as an assistant coach/player for the University of Ottawa Gee Gees.
Brendon Bonnor recently began his postsecondary studies in Kinesiology and Business at the University of Western Ontario. A member of both the Freelton Midgets and Caledonia Royals, Brendon participated at the U18 Men's Canadian Fastpitch Championship in Fredericton, NB this past summer.
