Canada Eliminates Denmark at ISF Junior Men's World Championship

(Parana, Argentina) The Canadian Junior Men's National Team opened up its playoff round schedule with an 8-0 win in six innings at the ISF IX Junior Men's World Championship. Ty Sebastian (Brussels, ON) shut down the Danes by allowing only two hits and striking out 10 in five innings of work, and also added two hits including a solo homerun to help lead Canada to the win. Canada will now move on to play the United States in an elimination game at 1:00pm EST on Friday.

Team Canada got on the board in the top of the second inning, as Carson Soucy (Irma, AB) led off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball and to third by tagging up on a fly ball before scoring on another passed ball. The red and white then added to that lead in the top of the fourth. Sebastian led off with a single, and pinch runner Brett Young (Taymouth, NB) advanced to second on a wild pitch before Taylor Schubada (Irma, AB) drew a walk. After Young and Schubada advanced to second and third on a wild pitch, Young scored on another wild pitch and Parker MacKay (Irma, AB) forced a walk. Firkus then grounded into a fielder's choice to score another run, and Michael Lamontagne (St-Charles-de-Bellechasse, QC) hit a one-run single to increase the lead to 4-0.

After giving up a leadoff double in the bottom of the fourth, Sebastian induced a fly out and struck out two batters to end the inning. He then stepped up and hit a solo homerun with two outs in the top of the fifth for Canada's fifth run. The red and white would put the game away in the top of the sixth as a pair of errors put runners on first and second. Aidan Patrick (Prince Albert, SK) then hit a run scoring single, and both Adam Stuck (Owen Sound, ON) and Patrick later scored on passed balls as Canada took the commanding 8-0 lead. Denmark was able to get a runner on base in the bottom of the inning, but was unable to move him any further as Canada earned the run-rule win.

Sebastian earned the win in the pitcher's circle, while Cole Bolton (Flinton, ON) pitched the sixth inning, striking out on batter. Sebastian also led Canada with two hits, while Lamontagne, Soucy, Schubada, Firkus and Patrick each added one apiece.

Box Score: Canada 8 vs. Denmark 0
