Port Elgin Blue Devils 8 Owen Sound Crunch 4
Blue Devils outfielder Mike Reilly drove in the game tying run, scored what
stood as the game winning run and added a massive homer late in the game to
pace Port Elgin.
The Blue Devils scored twice in the first to open the scoring in front of a
large " Family Night " crowd.
Ryan Whitney bunted his way aboard, stole second and came around to score on
a wild pitch and a passed ball.
Ryan Dudgeon, who had walked, also would score on a wild pitch to give Port
Elgin an early 2-0 lead.
The Crunch tied the affair in their half of the first.
Catcher Devin Edwards drew a walk and scored on an r.b.i. single by first
baseman Bill Ottwell. Ottwell advanced to third on a Mike Majury single and
scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 2-2.
Port Elgin went up 3-2 in the third when second baseman Darryl MacKinnon
scored on a bases loaded walk. However, Port Elgin did not produce any more
runs which allowed the Crunch to take the lead in the bottom of the inning.
With Edwards on board again, shortstop Tony Lisk launced a two run homer to
give Owen Sound a 4-3 lead.
Port Elgin got the lead back in the 5th. Ryan Dudgeon had a 1 out triple and
tied the game on Reilly's r.b.i.
Reilly came around to score when he was driven in by Matt Willis.
In the 6th, Matt Hamilton extended the Blue Devils lead. He singled, was
sacrificed to second, and scored after a passed ball and wild pitch.
Port Elgin closed the scoring with two more in the 7th. Reilly homered into
the right field parking lot to make it 7-4.
Brian Maas followed with a triple and scored on a wild pitch to round out
the scoring at 8-4.
Reliever Scott Christie got the win for Port Elgin. He pitched 4 & 2/3
innings giving up 5 hits and striking out 4. Christie relieved starter
Darryl Banks.
For the Crunch Perry Solomon took the loss in relief of starter Mark
Skerritt.
Both the Blue Devils and the Crunch will compete this weekend at the
O.A.S.A. Tournament in St Thomas.
