SAINT-LEONARD D’ASTON, QUE
. – Mitch Hardy of Alberton was on fire Thursday morning, allowing just two hits and striking out 16 of a possible 23 batters he faced as his Antigonish Murphy's Fish and Chips Eagles picked up their first of three wins here at the 2006 Canadian Junior Men's Softball championships.

Antigonish also beat Oshawa Double BB Juniors 8-5 in a game resumed from Tuesday's rain out and then faced the winless Summerside Source for Sports Twins. The two wins improved their record to 3-2 with one regular scheduled game and three innings in another game left in round robin play.

The two hits Hardy gave up Thursday were in the first inning when Quebec scored their only run, he was unhittable after that point.

"We just had everything clicking for us in that game," Hardy said before preparing for the game against Oshawa. "I had my stuff working like I'm use to having it."
Jonathan Gunn was tops for Antigonish hitting 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI.
Matt Greer took the loss allowing four runs on five hits and walking three in three and one third innings work.

Meanwhile, the Summerside Source for Sports Junior Twins were eliminated from playoff contention Thursday morning with their fifth loss here at the 2006 Canadian Junior Men’s softball championships.
The Twins lost 12-1 in five innings to the host L’Express after rain halted play in the morning. Mitch Hardy of Alberton and his Antigonish Murphy’s Fish and Chips Eagles beat Quyon Flyers of Quebec 5-1 behind strong pitching by Hardy to even their record at 2-2.

Ryan Gallant of Abram-Village (1-for-2) continued to lead the Eagles hitting while O’Leary’s Mike MacIsaac (1-for-1 with a walk, run scored) was the only other PEI batter to get a hit off winning pitcher Matthew Beniot, who recorded six strikeouts.
