Durham adds a
women’s fastball assistant coach with major experience

OSHAWA, Ont. – The
Durham College women’s fastball program is pleased to announce the addition of
Courtice resident Kali Burnham to the coaching staff. Burnham will join the
elite team as an assistant coach and will be responsible for the development of
the outfielders, as well as implementing a training program in order to take the
team to the next level.

Burnham comes to the program with a wealth of
playing experience having played four years at Boston University and the
University of Maine on a fastball scholarship while graduating with a Masters in
Education & Coaching (Ed.M) and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and
Physical Education.

While balancing studying and playing varsity
fastball, Burnham received several awards including being on the America East
Honour Roll from 2008-2011, earning the Maine Team Award for highest GPA award
for women’s fastball and the Presidential Pin for GPA in 2010. She also won the
Maine Rising Star award in 2008.

On the field, she was selected to the
America East All-Conference Team in 2010 and 2011. In Canada, she is a four-time
National Champion (2005-2007, 2012), as well as a silver (2011) and bronze
(2008) medalist. She was named the Canadian Fastball National Top Outfielder in
2010.

“I felt that as we move forward, in order to stay on top we needed
to add another coach to help out in this area,” said Jim Nemish, head coach of
the Lords.

Burnham also did volunteer coaching with the local high school
fastball programs while in college. “As coaches we can all learn from each other
and to add Kali to our staff is a bonus. We look forward to her bringing new
energy and ideas to our program,” said Nemish.

The women’s fastball team
has won 16 OCAA fastball provincial titles, the most of any college. In 2012,
the team won the silver medal at both the provincial and national
championship.
