Arizona State’s Coyle named USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week

OKLAHOMA CITY ---  An exceptional hitting performance against Pac-12 rival California earned Arizona State junior infielder Cheyenne Coyle (West Hills, Calif.) USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week honors for Week 12. The right hander went five-for-seven from the plate for a .714 average helping the Sun Devils to a sweep of then-No. 10 California over the weekend.

"I am honored to be selected as the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week,” said Coyle. “It was a great weekend for the team and hopefully we can stay hot offensively down this final stretch of the regular season."

Coyle’s impressive week began when she went two-for-three including two homeruns which contributed two RBI and two runs to Arizona State’s 10-2 run rule of California in game one of the series. The junior responded again in game two with two more RBI and two runs scored leading the Sun Devils to their second five-inning run rule (11-0) of the weekend.

Coyle closed out the weekend going two-for-three in the third game of the series and scoring two more runs. She finished the weekend with six runs, four RBI, an .818 on-base percentage and 1.714 slugging percentage.

"Cheyenne is a great player and deserving of such an outstanding selection,” said Arizona State Head Coach Clint Myers. “She has stepped up to do hard work, has great commitment and has been playing great softball since she arrived."

This is the first USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week honor for the junior and the first Player of the Week honor for an Arizona State player since Annie Lockwood won the award in Week 13 of the 2011 season.
