Escobedo pitches her way to USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week honors

OKLAHOMA CITY ---  Arizona State Junior Pitcher Dallas Escobedo (Glendale, Ariz.) is the Week 14 USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week following an impressive showing against then-No. 2 Oregon this past weekend. The Arizona native picked up a win and a save to help her Sun Devils take two-of-three from the Ducks in the Pac-12 series.

"It is an honor to be recognized by the USA program,” said Escobedo. “I want to thank them for recognizing me with this award and for the recognition that our team has gotten this season."

Escobedo began the week going seven complete innings and allowing just two runs on five hits to the No. 2 team in the country. She struck out ten batters on her way to the 3-2 win over the Ducks. In game two, Oregon took an early lead scoring two runs on eight hits until Escobedo entered in the fifth and retired nine-of-ten batters to pick up the save. The junior allowed no hits in her three innings in the circle.

In the third and final game of the series, Escobedo again entered in relief and put up another impressive showing. The Junior retired nine batters, allowing just one runner by way of a walk. Arizona State managed two runs in the bottom of the fifth but it wasn’t enough to overcome the four scored by Oregon earlier in the game as they fell 4-2. For the series, Escobedo went 1-0 with a save and notched a 1.08 ERA. The right-hander struck out 19 Oregon Duck batters while allowing just two runs on five hits in 13 complete innings.

"We are really excited about Dallas' honor,” said Arizona State Head Coach Clint Myers. “She has been working hard to pitch the way she has. We are excited for where she is at right now going into the postseason."

This is the second USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week honor for Escobedo who last won the award as a Freshman in Week 1 of the 2011 season. Fellow Sun Devil Cheyenne Coyle earned Player of the Week honors earlier this season in Week 12.
