Venezuela withdraws from world softball

                            BRAMPTON-Fans wanting to see Canada play its first game at the World Junior Women’s Softball championship in Brampton on Canada Day will have to wait a little longer.                        

                            Canada’s tournament opening game, scheduled against Venezuela Monday at 11:30 a.m. has been cancelled because Venezuela has pulled out of the tournament after problems obtaining visas.
                             That means Canada’s opening game with be with Great Britain at 2 p.m. on  Monday.                        

                            The contest between Puerto Rico and New Zealand which had been scheduled for Fairgrounds 2 Park at 11:30 is now scheduled for Fairgrounds 1 at 11:30.                        

                            All the Venezuela games will now be forfeits and the other spots for that team’s games will be blank.
                             Canada plays twice on Tuesday at the Fairgrounds, facing the Czech Republic at 2:30 p.m. and Korea at 7:30 p.m.                        

                            On Wednesday Canada faces Puerto Rico at noon and the United States at 7:30 p.m. The preliminary round concludes on Thursday with Canada facing New Zealand at 7:30 p.m.                        

                            The withdrawal of Venezuela means there are 15 teams competing at the worlds.                        

                            All Team Canada games are at the Fairgrounds on McMurchy Ave. There will also be preliminary games between Monday and Thursday at South Fletcher’s Sportsplex on Ray Lawson Blvd.
                             All games in the playoff round beginning on Friday, July 5 are at the Fairgrounds.                        

                            There is limited paid parking available at the Fairgrounds. Spectators are asked to not park on side streets. Illegally parked vehicles will be tagged and towed.                        

                            If the lot is full overflow parking is available on Sheard Avenue, west of McMurchy.
                             During peak hours there will also be a free shuttle bus running from Brampton Centennial Secondary School, at 251 McMurchy Ave. S, or Centennial Senior Public School, 50 Ladore Dr.                        

                            The shuttle operates Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, July 6 between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. and Sunday, July 7 between 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
