The Glencoe Astros Peewee boys fastball team travelled east this past weekend to take part in the Ontario Amateur Fastball Association Elimination tournament in Cobourg. The boys were representing the ORSA after winning an earlier qualifying tournament this season.

The team played their first game on Friday night against the New Hamburg Heat and came away with a 7-2 victory. Glencoe opened the scoring with a run in the second inning, followed by a big four run third inning to go ahead 5-o. New Hamburg would add a run in the fifth but Glencoe answered back with two more in the sixth inning to close out the victory. Connor McColl got the win on the mound with Josh Hamilton behind the plate. Scoring runs for Glencoe were McColl, Hamilton, Robbie Black, Brady Hogg, Marshall Kulich, Noah Johnson and Matt Thirlwall.

The boys next game was early Saturday morning against the heavily favoured Kitchener/Waterloo Kolts.
Glencoe started out strong with three runs in the first and another in the second but their opponent fought back to tie the game 4-4 after three innings. The Astros continued hitting and scored one more in the fourth and two in the sixth to hang on to a 7-4 lead heading into the last inning. The Kolts didn't give up and scored two runs in the seventh and have two men on base before the last batter struck out to end the tense affair with the locals on top 7-6.Sadecky and McColl shared the pitching duties with Hamilton behind the dish. Scoring for Glencoe was Black(2), Kulich(2), Hamilton, Brady Hogg and Emerson Hathaway.

Game three was played on Saturday afternoon against a scrappy team from Tavistock. This game would prove to be one of the most exciting of the tournament. The boys came out slow and before they knew it were behind 7-1 after two innings. However the Astros never say die attitude saw them chip away at the lead as the see saw affair continued. Heading into the seventh inning the team was down 10-8 but rallied for three runs to take their first lead of the game 11-10. Tavistock tied it in the bottom of the seventh sending the game to extra innings where Glencoe erupted for six runs. Tavistock answered with three of their own but it wasn't enough as the boys held on for a crucial 17-14 win. Sadecky and McColl shared the pitching with Hamilton once again behind the plate. Scoring for the Astros was Hamilton(4), Hogg(4), Hathaway(3), Thirlwall(2), Black, Sadecky, and Tyler Kunkel.

Sunday morning the team was back to play the Nappanee Express ion the undefeated game. Nappanee jumped out early to a 3-0 lead before the boys found their bats and pounded out hit after hit in scoring thirteen runs and cruising to a 13-5 win and a berth in the Ontario finals. This game featured some amazing defense for Glencoe as they turned two great double plays and made many fine catches. Sadecky got the win on the mound with Hamilton catching. Scoring runs were Hogg(3), Hathaway(3), Hamilton(2), Black, McColl,Thirlwall, Scott McFadden, and Kulich.

This put the team in the finals against Chepstow where they took an early lead and never looked back as they sailed to a 9-5 win and the Ontario championship. McColl got the win while Hamilton caught his fifth game of the tournament. Scoring runs was Sadecky(2), Thirlwall, Pat Sinclair, Kulich, McColl, Hogg and Hathaway.
