Midland, Mich. ---  Thirty young men from twelve states are participating in the USA Softball junior men's national team training camp in Midland, Mich. this week. Camp participants are getting their first action in USA uniforms as they compete with one another to make a spot on the final 17-person roster which will be announced at a later date. The week began with training drills and exhibitions and now the team is competing in a three-day tournament.

Day 1, Wednesday

Head coach Tim Lyon, along with assistants Scott Standerfer and Gary Mullican, led the athletes in hitting, fielding, base running and pitching drills.  Members of the USA Softball men's national team selection committee also assisted in the activities.

"It was great to get all the boys in camp to begin the process for the next world championship cycle" said Head Coach Lyon.  "We've got a really good group of kids here and we're looking forward to this week of training."

The camp is the first step in preparation for the next ISF World Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon Canada in July, 2014.

Day 2, Thursday

Day Two at the USA Softball junior men's national team training camp in Midland, Mich. featured the thirty players divided into three teams (Red, White and Blue) for two controlled scrimmages.  Nine pitchers saw action in the morning and afternoon contests at Currie Stadium in Emerson Park.

"We were eager to see the pitchers, hitters and defensive players in real game-type situations" said head coach Tim Lyon.  "We were pleasantly surprised at the skill level these young men displayed.  We're looking forward to helping them develop their skills even further as we go along in this process."

The week-long training camp is the first step in preparation for the next ISF World Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon Canada next July.
