U21 Men’s International Softball Championship
Playoff Results

(Saskatoon, SK) The weather came in to play in the playoff round of the U21 Men’s International Softball Championship with games being delayed until 4:00pm CST, forcing the consolation round playoff games to be played at different fields and pushing a one Championship round playoff game to Sunday.
 
Championship Round Playoffs
 
C01: Ontario 5 vs. Newfoundland and Labrador 4
 
In the opening playoff game, Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador played in a seesaw battle that saw Ontario come out on top. NL opened the scoring on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Kirk in the bottom of the first, with Ontario tying the game in the top of the fourth before NL re-took the lead with a leadoff homerun by Troy Leonard in the bottom of the inning. However, Ontario responded with three runs in the top of the fifth by scoring a run on an error and two more on a triple by Ty Sebastian, and would go on to add a run in the top of the seventh on a passed ball to take a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Kirk hit a two-out, two-run homerun to get NL within one, but the next batter flied out to right to end the game. Mark Power was the hard-luck losing pitcher for NL, allowing five runs – only one earned – on three hits with 10 strikeouts.
 
C02: New Zealand 7 vs. Saskatchewan 6
 
Saskatchewan and New Zealand also played in a tight contest, with ISA New Zealand coming out on top after scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Both teams hit a solo homeruns in the first inning, with Josh Elliot hitting one for Saskatchewan before Curtis Huata hit one of his own in the bottom of the frame. NZ added three runs on the bottom of the second on a leadoff homerun by Ben Watts, a sacrifice fly to right field and an RBI single by Jordan Waterhouse to build a 4-1 lead. Saskatchewan chipped away at that lead with a run on an RBI double by Brandon Dauvin in the third and another on an error in the fourth, but NZ added one of their own in the bottom of the fourth on a run-scoring single by Bradley Bennett. However, SK tied the game the following inning on an RBI double by Curtis Piecowye and a run-scoring single by Brayden Knackstedt to knot the game at 5-5. NZ regained the lead with two runners scoring on a sacrifice fly deep to right field in the bottom of the sixth, and SK was only to score one in the top of the seventh as NZ won the game.
 
C03: Alberta 8 vs. British Columbia 0
 
Steven Normand fired a five inning two-hit shutout and Alberta pushed seven runs in to score in the bottom if the second as Alberta eliminated British Columbia with an 8-0 win. Alberta opened the scoring in the bottom of the second on an error, a pair of two-run doubles by Brandon Powlik and Taylor Schubada, and RBI singles by Ambrose Firkus and Keegan Arcand. The following inning, BC got a leadoff double by Brady Quaite and put another runner on base with a walk, but was unable to score, while Alberta’s Chance Lund led off with a double and quickly scored on a single by Brett Larson.
 
C04: Argentina 6 vs. Nova Scotia 2
 
Argentina scored four runs in the top of the sixth to eliminated Nova Scotia from the tournament with a 6-2 win. Argentina scored the first run of the game in the top of the third on an RBI double by Matias Cano, and added four more in the top of the sixth on a leadoff homerun by Roman Godoy Herbel and a three-run shot by Gaston Suarez to take a commanding 5-0 lead. NS got one back on an RBI single by Alex Anthony in the bottom of the sixth, but Argentina scored their sixth run on a fielder`s choice in the top of the seventh. Tyler MacIsaac hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all NS could do as Argentina won the game.
 
C05: Newfoundland and Labrador 7 vs. Alberta 0
 
Colin Walsh fired a three-hitter in six innings with 11 strikeouts as Newfoundland and Labrador eliminated Alberta from the tournament. NL opened the scoring in the top of the third on an RBI single by Ryan Kirk, and added two more the following inning on a pair of RBI doubles by Walsh and Daniel Dalton. Mark Power hit an RBI triple in the fifth and scored on a single by Aaron Whelan, and NL scored two more in the top of the sixth on a solo homerun by Walsh and an RBI double by Kirk to round out the scoring. 
 
C06: Argentina 8 vs. Saskatchewan 1
 
Argentina came out on fire with four runs in the top of the first inning and Roman Godoy Herbel limited Saskatchewan to one run on four hits as Argentina eliminated the host province from the tournament. Matias Cano opened the scoring on a two-run single and scored on a wild pitch, while another run scored on a ground out to give Argentina an early 4-0 lead. They would go on to add a run on a solo homerun by Godoy Herbel in the third, and yet another solo shot by Cano in the fifth. Saskatchewan got on the board with a run in the bottom of the sixth on the wild pitch, but Argentina would seal the game with a two-run single by Huemul Mata Carabajal.
 
Impact Diesel Performance (Consolation) Playoffs
 
CC1: Northwest Territories 6 vs. Manitoba 1
 
In the first game of the consolation round playoffs, the Northwest Territories built up a 5-0 lead before defeating Manitoba by a score of 6-1 to advance to the consolation round final. NWT opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by Kynan Tarnowski, and added two more runs in the third on a blast by Dylan Klassen. In the fifth, NWT scored a run on a fielder’s choice and another on a single by Lyndon Antoine to increase the lead to 5-0. Tyler Woodhouse hit a solo homerun in the top of the sixth for Manitoba, but NWT got that run back on an RBI double by Klassen to round out the scoring. Tarnowski earned the complete game win in the pitcher’s circle for NWT, allowing a run on six hits with nine strikeouts.
 
CC2: New Brunswick 3 vs. Quebec 1
 
New Brunswick pitcher Braden Scott limited Quebec to one run on three hits and New Brunswick scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to advance to the consolation round final. NB opened the scoring on an RBI single by Dustin Chase in the bottom of the second, and Quebec went on to tie the game in the top of the fourth on a single by Alexandre Labbe. In the bottom of the fifth, Braden Scott and Ransen Harris each hit RBI singles to round out the scoring.
 
CC3: Quebec 7 vs. Manitoba 5
 
Quebec completed their tournament with a come-from-behind win over Manitoba. Quebec opened the scoring with a two-run double by Samuel B. Desmarais in the bottom of the fourth, but Manitoba responded with four runs on a two-run single by Dennis Stevenson and a two-run homerun by Tyler Woodhouse to take the lead. Manitoba added another run on an error to take a 5-2 lead in the top of the sixth, but Quebec responded with a big inning in the bottom of the frame. Quebec loaded the bases with two outs before Francois-Charles Rene launched a grand slam to put Quebec back on top, and they later added another run on a wild pitch. Manitoba went down in order in the top of the seventh as Quebec came out with the win.
 
CC4: New Brunswick 5 vs. Northwest Territories 0
 
New Brunswick won the consolation round final as Braden Scott fired a one-hitter and the bats woke up in the late innings for the 5-0 win. Scott and NWT pitcher Ryan Hepburn battled it out in the pitcher’s circle with only three hits over the first five innings among the two of them. NB opened the scoring in the top of the sixth on a fielder’s choice and an RBI single by Devon McKenzie to take a 2-0 lead. They would go on to add a run on a groundout and two more on a homerun by Brett Young to round out the scoring.
