1st Annual Schaefer and Bierlein Invitational July 12-14 Frankenmuth MI Results

Frankenmuth, MI

The 1st Annual Schaefer and Bierlein Invitational was held this past weekend in Frankenmuth, MI. 16 teams from across Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Ontario competed for the title with the Thunder (Columbus, OH) beating the A’s (Reese, MI) by a score of 5-0 in the A bracket championship. Mike Cantrell threw a complete game no-hitter to earn the win for the Thunder.

The tournament is an extension of the Pete Schwab Memorial Tournament which ran for 12 consecutive years as a 12 to 18 team tournament – an amazing run. The Pete Schwab Memorial was started by former teammates in memory of Pete who played with the Frankenmuth Brewery fastpitch team in the mid-90s when he tragically passed away at a very young age. Although only one teammate of Pete’s remains involved in the game after 12 years, the tournament prevailed. The new invitational was organized and ran by the Schaefer & Bierlein Wrangler’s, a 1st year team with an average age of 21 (if you disregard two 40-something player-managers). As the Schaefer & Bierlein Invitational establishes its own history, the Wrangler’s would like to recognize the history of the Pete Schwab Memorial tournament and would like to honor Pete’s memory on behalf of former Frankenmuth Brewery players.
