TAVISTOCK MINOR BALL

Dave Bailey and Tavistock have a great minor ball program. Two teams, the Midgets and the Bantams have qualified for the Canadians later this summer. The PeeWee team was a run away from making it three teams at the nationals.

Dave says that they have put a lot of effort into skills clinics for all their players. Many of the great players in the Cephas Roth tournaments have instructed at the spring clinics. All of the coaches in the program have earned softball coaching certificates.

Tavistock received the Softball Association Merit Award at the 2012 Annual General Meeting of the OASA....

It is a good organization...and it shows on the field and behind the screen...

OASA Great Lakes Championship

This year's senior Men's and Intermediate A championships will be played at New Dundee. OASA Vice President Brad Thomson is hosting 9 teams July 26, 27 and 28th. Four senior teams will qualify to attend the Canadian Senior Men's Championship in Stratford later this summer. The "B" side winners will be Ontario's Intermediate A champions.

Game 1, 7 pm Friday night, will be Hill United Warriors, vs Wellington Sox, with the winners to meet the Kitchener Outlaws, Saturday at 9am

The Outlaws just picked up the championship at last weekends Ponsonby tournament. Wellington Sox are last years South Perth League Champs.

The other 7pm start has Shakespeare Falcons up against the Niagara Snappers. Shakespeare has proven to be a strong team this year with good pool play records at the Legends in Kitchener and Cephas Roth in Tavistock. The Falcons are the host team at the Canadians later this summer.

Scarborough Force and Waterdown Hammer meet Friday at 9pm, on Diam 2, Kitchener Cubs and Alvinston face each other on Diam 1, also at 9pm

The Cubs are the CASA Silver medal winners last year, and are defending OASA Senior Champs. The Hammer is the 2012 Intermediate A OASA champs

That looks like a great lineup for fastpitch fans...The strong Scarborough Force looking for a win after coming close in Tavistock and Kitchener, the Softball Canada host team Shakespeare Falcons looking to break thru preliminary play and do well in the championship games, the defending OASA Senior champs, Kitchener Cubs, wanting to repeat as Ontario champs, Waterdown wanting to stay on the winning side and covert the Intermediate title into a senior championship, and last years winners of the South Perth League...Wellington Sox wanting to compete and win in provincial championship play.....

This is a double knock out tournament...the 2nd round loss in the lower bracket moves a team into the Intermediate bracket

The OASA Jr B championship will also take place in New Dundee. Three Junior teams will meet for the Ontario "B" title. The Junior B OASA title is open to any team that doesn't finish in the top four of the OASA Junior "A" championship.

Elmira, Four Counties and Caledonia are entereed. Elmira 37s vs Caledonia Saturday morning at 9,
Four Counties vs Caledonia at 3pm and Elmira Vs Four Counties at 9pm
