Softball Competition Set to Begin
at Canada Summer Games

(Sherbrooke, QC) The top young female softball players from our country are ready to compete at the 2013 Canada Summer Games, with games scheduled from Saturday, August 3 to Friday, August 9. Representatives from each of Canada’s ten provinces will play for the opportunity to earn a medal at the event. The tournament will feature athletes from the U21 Women’s age category, including several who have competed with the Canadian Junior Women’s National Team at the international level.

The two venues will be at Bureau and Desranleau parks, a pair of converted slo-pitch and baseball fields to accommodate the women’s softball competition. The host organizing committee has done a fantastic job to prepare the diamonds for the teams.

In the preliminary round, teams will all play each other once for a total of nine games per team (45 in total). The top four teams will advance to the playoff round, as the two top teams will earn double-life in the Page playoff system. The Bronze medal game will be played at 12:00pm EDT followed by the Gold medal game at 3:00pm EDT on Friday, August 9 at Bureau Park. Additionally, the six teams who do not qualify for the playoff round will compete in the consolation round, with the consolation final taking place at 1:00pm EDT also on Friday August 9 at Desranleau Park.

TSN and RDS will provide television coverage of the Canada Games throughout the week, while the softball competition will feature 48 hours of webcast coverage at http://www.canadagames.tv. The full webcast schedule can be found at this link.

The tournament schedule, scoring, statistics and daily recaps will be available both on the Canada Games website (http://www.jeuxducanada2013.ca/en/) and the Softball Canada website (http://www.softball.ca). The Softball Canada website also has a page entirely dedicated to the 2013 Canada Summer Games, which can be accessed through the “Canadian Championships” section of the website. Live Pointstreak scoring will be available for all games.

At the previous Canada Summer Games held in Prince Edward Island in 2009, British Columbia edged Ontario 2-1 to earn their second consecutive Gold medal, while Quebec earned its first women’s softball medal by winning the Bronze.
