Canada Summer Games – Day 2 Results

(Sherbrooke, QC) The softball competition at the Canada Summer Games continued on Sunday with rain continuing to be the story as Desranleau Park was delayed for an hour and a half in the afternoon and later forced two evening games to be postponed to later in the week. At Bureau Park, rain started to fall during the last game of the day between Quebec and Nova Scotia, and after an hour delay, the game resumed and was completed.

Ontario 7 vs. Saskatchewan 0

After splitting their two games on Saturday, Ontario started the second day of competition by scoring five runs in the top of the sixth, while the pitching duo of Alex Sagl (Burlington, ON) and Stacie Cox (London, ON) combined to limit Saskatchewan to only one hit in the win. Saskatchewan pitcher Keeley Van Blaricom (Southey, SK) held Ontario to two runs on four hits through four plus innings, but Ontario put up four hits to score five runs highlighted by a two-run double by Miranda Castiglione (Brampton, ON) in the top of the fifth. Castiglione drove in another run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth as Ontario took the run-rule win in six innings. Van Blaricom registered Saskatchewan’s only hit in the bottom of the first inning, while Janet Leung (Mississauga, ON) had a double, a single and two runs batted in for Ontario.

In a battle between two unbeaten teams after the first day of competition, British Columbia jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back in a 9-1 win over Alberta in five innings. Courtney Bridge (Thompson, MB) drove in two runs for BC, while Chelsea Jenner (Abbotsford, BC) added an RBI triple and Cassandra Dypchey (South Surrey, BC) and Stefani Ellis (Vancouver, BC) each pushed a run across the plate. Torri Belton (Langley, BC) limited Alberta to one run on three hits in five innings of work to earn the win in the pitcher’s circle.
