(Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) The Canadian Senior Women’s National took both ends of a doubleheader on Tuesday, defeating Peru 8-0 and Belize 13-0 at the Pan American Championship. With the two wins, Canada improved its record to 4-1, with games against Guatemala (Wednesday at 4:30pm) and Puerto Rico (Thursday at 7:00pm) remaining before the playoff round begins on Friday.    In the first game against Peru, Jocelyn Cater (Delta, BC) struck out the side in the top of the first before Canada opened the scoring when Caitlin Lever (Buffalo, NY) hit a leadoff single, advanced to second on a passed ball, and tagged up on a fly ball to advance to third before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Jen Yee (North Delta, BC). The following inning, Cater walked two batters but struck out the side again, with Canada getting two runners on base on hit by pitches but was unable to score.    Both teams didn’t get much going in the third and fourth innings before Canada exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, sending nine batters to plate without giving an out. Larissa Franklin (Maple Ridge, BC) started the inning by reaching on an error followed by an RBI by Lever who scored on an error on the play. Victoria Hayward (Toronto, ON) singled, stole second base and scored on a single by Yee, who advanced to third after a pair of wild pitches. After a walk put runners on the corners, Heather Ebert (Rosthern, SK) singled to score Yee followed by a walk to load the bases. A wild pitch scored a run and moved everyone up by a base and another walk loaded the bases again, setting the stage for a two-run double by Meagan Baird (Ajax, ON) to end the game.   Box Score and Play-by-Play: Canada 8 vs. Peru 0    Jocelyn Cater fired a five inning no-hitter for Canada, walking three batters and striking out 10 to earn the win. At the plate, Lever went two-for-two with a triple, two runs batted in and two runs scored, with Meagan Baird adding a two-run double. Yee and Ebert each had RBI singles, with Hayward chipping in with a single of her own.    Against Belize, starting pitcher Sara Plourde (Fredericton, NB) issued a walk and allowed a single in the top of the first, but struck out the side. Canada wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning, with Erika Polidori (Brantford, ON) and Jen Yee both hitting one-out singles before Jenny Gilbert (Saskatoon, SK) drove in Polidori with a single of her own. Heather Ebert followed up with a two-run triple to give Canada an early 3-0 lead.    In the second, Kelsey Haberl (Burnaby, BC) was hit by a pitch and Larissa Franklin hit a bunt single to put two runners on base. Erika Polidori singled to score Haberl from second, and Jen Yee also singled to load the bases. Gilbert followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield and Ebert singled in another run to increase the lead to 6-0.    Plourde struck out the side in the top of the third and Canada tacked on another seven runs to blow the game open in the bottom of the frame. Megan Timpf (Port Dover, ON) was hit by a pitch to get things started and Haberl reached on an error. Natalie Wideman (Mississauga, ON) singled to bring Timpf in to score, and Franklin followed suit with a single to score Haberl. Polidori hit a single of her own to score Wideman before Jen Yee blasted a three-run homerun to increase the lead to 12-0. Heather Ebert followed with a triple and scored on a double by Sara Hopwood (Surrey, BC) to round out the scoring. Plourde retired Belize in order in the top of the fourth to finish the game.   Box Score and Play-by-Play: Canada 13 vs. Belize 0    Plourde allowed one hit and two walks and struck out nine in the win for Canada. Women’s National Team veterans Jen Yee and Heather Ebert led Canada offensively, each notching three hits and driving in three runs, while Polidori had a pair of hits and also drove in three. Larissa Franklin added a pair of hits, with Gilbert, Hopwood and Wideman each contributing with one.    Canada (4-1) will take on Guatemala (1-3) at 4:30pm EDT on Wednesday in a game that is scheduled to be webstreamed.
