Kitchener, ON

SCARBOROUGH FORCE WINS GREAT LAKES - Cub's a strong second
ELMIRA 37s pick up Jr B title -

This years OASA Senior and Intermediate and Junior B championships were
held in New Dundeethe last weekend of July....The Breslau River Dogs and
Kitchener Cubs were hosts.

Scarborough Force got 3 runs off 7 hits, scoring  singles in the 1st,
3rd and 5th innings.  The Kitchener Cubs could not generate
offence...reaching 3rd base only once...a triple by Dan Mitchell with
two out in the 4th.

Andy Skelton went the distance for Scarborough, and scored the 2nd run
for the Force, an RBI double by Jeremy Tracey. Other Force runs were
scored by  Dave Brownhill and Nick Dambrosio.

Brownhill singled to lead off the top of the first inning, Scott
Leblanc, followed with a single, and Andrew Scott another single and the
RBI to open the game for Scarborough

In the 5th, Andrew Scott doubled, and D'Ambrosio, pinch running for
Andrew, scored on a Jeremy Tracey single.

Ryan French was the losing pitcher for the Cubs, allowing 7 hits, Andy
Skelton got the win, 2 hits.  The Cubs left 6 on base, the Force 7.

The Kitchener Hallman Cubs defeated the Hill Warriors earlier Sunday 2 -
1  Ryan French picked up that win over Grant Patterson.  In the bottom
of the 7th, Grand Baechler scored from 3rd on a comebacker to Patterson
to give the Cubbies the win.

The Cubs also defeated the Kitchner Outlaws a win for Scott Wagar and
loss for Jeff Wise and Kevin Buckley...Wise went 1 inning, allowed 4
runs.  Buckley was tagged for 6 runs in the 4 innings he threw for the
Outlaws

The win puts the  Scarborough Force  into the Canadian men's fastpitch
championship next week in Stratford.

The Kitchener Cubs and the Kitchener Outlaws also advance to the
Canadians in Stratford with their 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the OASA
Great Lakes Tournament

Fastpitch fans will also see the Shakespeare Falcons in Stratford, as
the host team.

Lots of fastpitch action next week in Stratford

In the Junior "B" championship held in New Dundee at the Great Lakes
tournament the Elmira 37s defeated Caledonia Royals 8 - 7 in 8 innings...

Caledonia score 7 runs on 11 hits,...Elmira 8 runs on 13 hits...

Greg Livingston and Tim Wright were on the rubber for Elmira...Wright
went 5 innings...allowed 5 earned runs, on 8 hits, 2
strikeouts...Livingston 3 innings, 2 earned runs, on 3 hits and 2 ks

For Caledonia..Kent Wardell 5 innings, 6 runs, 4 earned, on 9 hits and 7 ks
Mitch Greeen went 3 innings, 2 earned runs, on 4 hits and 4 ks

Great game...

The Great Lakes tournament keeps building on success...it is getting
better each year.


ISC WORLD TOURNAMENT - Quad Cities - Moline Illinois and Bettendorf Iowa,

Hill United of Six Nations took the big prize this year in Moline
Illinois.  The Chiefs defeated the New York Gremlins 1 - 0, the winning
run scored in the bottom of the 10th by James Sheilds on a sacrifice fly
to deep right field by Jeff Ellsworth.

It is the second win in a row for the Chiefs over the Gremlins. Six
Nations won the ASA a two weeks ago in South Bend Indiana with a 1 - 0
win over the NY squad.

Adam Folkard went the distance for the Chiefs..22 strike outs, and only
2 hits. Folkard pitched a perfect game earlier against the Gremlins, no
runs, no hits, no walks, 15 strike outs and a 3 - 0 win.

Here are the scores and how the Chiefs and the Gremlins got to the finals

Pennsylvania Power defeated and eliminated the Hallman Twins 6 - 5 to
meet the Gremlins in the semi final. The Gremlins won that 4 - 3

Adam Folkards perfect game, a 3 - 0 win over the Gremlins dropped the NY
team to the losers bracket on Friday evening... a great game...

Also on Friday night...Pennsylvania Power eliminated Scarborough Force 8
- 1, and the Hallman Twins knocked out Bakersfield California A's, 9 - 6.

Scarborough eliminated Bloomington Styx 5 - 2.

Six Nation Hill United dropped the Twins to the loser bracket Thursday
evening with a 6 - 4 win.
Earlier Hill had defeated Circle Tap of Denmark Wisc. 4 - 0.....and
Petes Blues of Mascoutah Illinois 9 - 1 .  They opened the tournament
with a win over Great Lakes Mariners of Marshall Mich. 10 - 0

The Gremlins had wins over Pennsylvanie Power 3 - 1, Kegel Black Knights
2 - 0, the Kitchener Cubs 6 - 0, and Westerville Capitals of Ohio 14 - 0.

Other Pennsylvaia Power scores included a 3 - 0 win over the Minnesota
Angels, and 2 - 1 over the Saskatoon Diamondbacks.  PA Power opened the
tournament with a 5 - 0 win over Cal State Builders of San Mateo California

Jarvis Hallman Twins defeated Topeka Kansas 3 - 0.  Then 4 - 0 over the
New York Swashbucklers, followed by a 9 - 2 victory over the Styx of
Bloomington Illinois to meet the Six Nations Chiefs.

Scarborough was eliminated by Bloominton.  Earlier they eliminated
Circle Tap, 10 - 0, and Saskatoon Diamondbacks 3 - 0.  Force defeated
Marshall Great Lakes Mariners 7 - 0.  The Minnesota Angels knocked the
Force into the loser bracket with a 5 - 2 win on Monday.  They opened
the tournament with a 4 - 3 win over Randy's As of Invermere B.C.

Kitchener Hallman Cubs opened with a 4 - 2 win over Olympia Wash.'s
Lacy's A's, and followed up with a win over theEl Paso Tex.
Steele...this time 4 - 3.  The Gremlins dropped the Kitchener Cubs to
the losers bracket in game 56. Pueblo Bandits eliminated the Cubs 8 - 0.

Kitchener Bell Cartage Outlaws opened with a 7 - 1 win over Westerville
Ohio., a loss to Sooke BC Loggers followed 10 - 3. The Outlaws bounced
back 9 - 2 over Walcott Iowa, then 7 - 0 over Hickson Ontario
Reds...then another match-up with Sooke...and again a loss, this time 4
- 1...and elimination

The Erb Electric Expos, opened with a 6 - 2 game over Odin Minnesota ,
lost to Circle Tap of Wisconsin, 8 - 1, another win, this time 6 - 0
over Eldridge Iowa. Saskatoon DiamondBacks beat the Expos, 9 - 4 to
eliminate Elmira

Shakespeare Falcons, the 4th South Perth League team at the ISCs this
year opened up against Houston Texas with a 7 - 3 win...lost two in a
row, the first  to West St Paul Minn. Angels, 9 - 1 and the second to
Midland Explorers 11 - 1.  That loss dropped the Falcons to the ISC II
bracket.  They beat the Hustle Hogs of Dekalb Illinois 7 - 0..advanced
to play Halifax PepperJacks, a Falcon win 6 - 5.
then 4 - 2 over Westerville Ohio Capitols,  then 7 - 0 over Rockford
Black Hawks of Illinois. The Falcons run was put to an end with a loss
to SanMateo California's Cal-State Builders...2 - 1

Wiarton Nationals dropped their opening game to Aurora Illinois Dolan &
Murphy, 7 - 1, beat Westerville Capitals 3 - 2, and were dropped to the
ISC II bracket with a loss to Pueblo Col. Bandits 10 - 1...They played 3
games in the ISC and began a streak in the ISC II that was 8 games long,
leading to the ISC II championship game against Midland Michigan Emerson
Aces

Wiarton ran off wins against ElPaso Texas 5 - 1, Topeka Kansas, 4 - 3,
the Bar on the Avenue, Appleton Wisc, 5 - 2, Winterset Iowa A's 9 - 8,
then Randy's A's out of Invermere BC, 6 - 2, San Mateo Calif, Cal -
State Builders, 2 -1, eliminated Topeka Kansas, Toros, 3 - 2...and met
the Emerson Aces, and lost in extra innings 9 - 8...a great run for a
great Ontario fastball team...

It will be good to see both Emerson and the Nationals next year in
Kitchener..along with all the other ISC and ISC II teams..

There is a long list of tournament awards which I will include next week
along with the Legends and the under 21 ISC tournament.

CANADIANS IN STRATFORD - start August 27th and continue all week

Four of the ball teams competing in Moline Illinois at the Quad Cities
ISC World Tournament will be representing Ontario in the 2013 Softball
Canada  Men's Senior Championships.

Scarborough Force leads the Ontario challenge. They are the the OASA
Great Lakes champs this year.

The Force opens with a game against the host team Shakespeare Falcons. 
That game is 12 noon, Tuesday,

At 10 30 am on Tuesday the Kitchener Outlaws play East Hants of Nova
Scotia, the Kitchener Cubs open with Quebec at 1 pm

The Outlaws play a second game on Tuesday...this one with the defending
champs from Newfound-Labrador, Cheers Pub.

Other Ontario games include the Falcons against PEI's Fawcetts, and
Cheers against Scarborough...
That should be a good one..

JOHN THOMPSON - ISC Hall of Fame - Inductee

Well known, highly respected, all round great "go to guy" John Thompson
will be inducted into the ISC Hall of Fame next year.

John is the nominee under the Bob Welby "Recognition of Service Award"

John began his career in softball in his home town of Mildmay Ontario, 
He played on WOAA (Western Ontario Athletic Association) and OASA teams
and won titles in both of these organizations.  He continued in
fastpitch softball in the Kitchener Fastball League with the Big Bill's
team.  Big Bills was always a contender in KFL with a number of
championships.  They won many Ontario tournaments under John's
leadership.  He moved to coach the Waterloo CHYMrs, later  renamed the
Twins.  The nomination also mentions John's leadership as chair of the
1996 Canadian championships, publisher of the popular  Diamond Dirt
tournament newsletter, author of the Darren Zach biography.

John is past president of the Kitchener Sports Ass'n, past chair of the
Athlete of the Year and Waterloo Region Hall of Fame, and incoming
president of the Kitchener Westmount Rotary Club.


John has served as the MC of the ISC Hall of Fame Breakfast.  ISC
Executive Director Larry Fisher stated at this years Hall of Fame
Breakfast in Bettendorf Iowa, that without John Thompson's leadership
the ISC would have lost the popular event, and that many derserving
softball volunteers would not be honored for thier contribution to
softball.

Congratulations John from all your friends...and thanks for your
contribution to fastpitch softball.
