The Roseville Eagles arrived in Salem, Oregon on Friday morning...one Suv load at 3:30 AM and the next SUV load at 7AM.  10 and 8.5 hour road trips!  A few caught a plane.  I manned the wheel for the 10-hr drive and only managed to get 3.5 hrs sleep on game day. Â
Game time Friday was 2PM vs. the Redhawks of Santa Rosa, CA.  They started Nate Dondero and the Roseville Eagles countered with newcomer, 24-yr young, Bobbi Alvara.  In the first inning, Roseville's 2nd baseman, Adam Traugh led off, slapped his way on and eventually scored...Eagles go up 1-0.  In the 4th, the Redhawks scored with the help of an error by Roseville's centerfielder...game now tied, 1-1.  In the top of the 5th, with 1 out and Tyler Phillips on 3rd, I bunted and Nate the pitcher fielded it and went to first for the putout.  Phillips aggresively broke home on the throw to first and scored... Roseville was back up 2-1. In the bottom of the 5th, the Redhwaks battled back and quickly got their first two runners on base.  The Eagles coach, Paul Carelton lifted young Bobbi Alvara for the veteran, Keith Frey.  After Keith walked his first batter, I'm out in right field thinking how it so important to win your first game in Championship play....our opponents had the bases loaded with no outs and we were clinging to the slimmest of leads,  2-1.
Keith focussed in on the situation and got the next 3 batters and slammed the door. Â In the final 7th inning, I led off with a slap single, moved around the bases and scored on a wild pitch... our teammates followed suit and we tacked up a 5 spot that inning and Frey closed out the 7th inning for a hard fought 7-1 National play opening game "W"!! Â Â Next on the bracket for Roseville, waiting for their first game would be Brotherton Pipeline from Grants Pass, Oregon. Â
The Roseville Eagles roster includes, Coach Paul Carelton, veterans Mario Periera, Larry Machado, Joel Manfredi, Dany Blanco, Kary Moore, Keith Frey and Ken Brose. Â Sharing the pitching duties with Frey and Brose include Bobbi Alvara and canadian, Trevor Ward. Â Also included are Adam Traugh, Tyler Phillips, Nick Freitas, Kevin Fontana and Robbie Porter.Â
