INDIANS EXTEND FINAL SERIES TO GAME #4

The Alvinston Indians avoided elimination on Sunday night on home turf versus the Shedden Mission.

The difference makers for the Alvinston Indians were starting pitcher Kyle Crawford, as well as Indians third baseman Brad Cooper, who was the hero in the bottom of the sixth inning, when he clubbed an opposite field two out homerun, to put the Indians in front 3-2, which was the final score.  Crawford would allow five hits and 4 walks, while striking out 18 Shedden batters in the win for Alvinston.  Both runs allowed were earned runs for Crawford, whose defence did not let him down on this night, and the Indians ace went to work on the mound, doing everything he could to extend the series.

Shedden put the pressure on Alvinston, mounting a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning.  Cassidy North was hit by a pitch with one out, and then with two out, a double by Pat Haggerty plated North, while Gary Cooke followed with a single to plate Haggerty.  However, Alvinston would have an answer in their half of the third inning as well, when Alix Chisholm singled to lead things off, while Joe Triest did the same with one out.  The next batter was Craig Lyons, who reached base via a fielder's choice as Chisholm was forced out at third base, leaving runners on first and second.  Both runners advance to second and third via a pass ball, and Joe Triest scored when a wild pitch, plated the first and get-close Indians run.  Jamie Shields then promptly hammered a hard single up the middle to score Lyons to square matters at 2-2.

Both teams would threaten in the fourth innings, but ultimately both Crawford and Shedden starter Nic Goetz slammed the door shut, and did the same in the fifth inning.  But in the sixth, with two out, was when Cooper clubbed his solo homerun to put the Indians in front for good.  Crawford struck out the side in the top of the seventh, ending what was a very entertaining ball game.

Game four goes Tuesday in Fingal at 8:00pm, when the Indians will try to extend the St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League final playoff series to a fifth game.
