Durham fastball sweeps Mohawk

Game One: Durham defeated Mohawk 5-3
Game Two: Durham defeated Mohawk 15-0
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women’s fastball team won their third and fourth straight games on Thursday night as they picked up a pair of victories over the Mohawk Mountaineers. The Lords won by scores of 5-3 and 15-0.
Durham would find themselves down early in game one, but would go on to score in four straight innings beginning in the second to go on to win by a score of 5-3.
Lydia Kalbfleisch (Moorefield, Ont.) earned the win for Durham, pitching five innings and allowing only two unearned runs on four hits. Danielle Crosby (Whitby, Ont.) would earn the two-inning save as she allowed one earned run and three hits.
The Lords would have eight hits in the game, all of which were singles. Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) and Kayla Worotniak (Lloydminster, Alta.) made up half of the teams hits finishing the night with two apiece. Nicole Leitch had a two-hit night for the Mountaineers.
In game two, Durham’s offence would blow the door wide open in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring 12 runs off of Mohawk pitchers Tamara Cochrane and Steph Duffin.
Laura Arbour (Whitby, Ont.) was 2-for-2 at the plate with three runs and a RBI. Stephanie McLachlin (Corunna, Ont.) had a big bases loaded triple which knocked in three runs.
Black was lights out on the mound pitching the five-inning complete game shutout. She allowed only four Mohawk batters to reach base while striking out eight including three in the fifth inning.
Durham is 5-3 on the season while the Mountaineers fall to 0-9. Durham will have a tilt against the first place and undefeated St. Clair Saints (6-0) on Saturday afternoon in Windsor. Game time is at 12 p.m.
