Saskatoon Jr Diamondbacks Softball  Club Announcement
Saskatoon Saskatchewan –January 17th 2014
The Saskatoon Jr Diamondbacks Softball  Club is proud to announce that is entering into its 11th consecutive season. The 2014 Squad brings back 7 Veterans from last year’s 4th place finish at the 2013 Jr Men’s Canadians and is very excited to announce the new recruits for the upcoming Season. The Dbacks have recruited from the Saskatoon Selects Midget AA Program, Catcher Donavan Klassen , Pitcher Zach Pierce ,Utility player Curtis Piecowye & Outfielder Taylor Barber. Also recruited from the Prince Albert Astros AA Midget Program are Utility players Josh Elliot, Mathew Pilon &Outfielder Justin Boyer. The Jr Diamondbacks Softball Club welcomes the new recruits to the Jr Program .With the new recruits the Diamondback organization have brought in a new Coaching staff and reached back into the past with former Jr Diamondback player Kalen Kovitch to assume the Head Coaching position. Along with Kalen the Dbacks are excited to announce that Todd McCullough & Sean LaHaye have been added to the Coaching staff.
 The Jr Diamondbacks will be attending its 10th consecutive Softball Canada Jr Men’s Canadian Championship which will be held in Irma Alberta in August and will be playing in the Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association Special Men’s Division

Coaching Staff

Kalen Kovitch – Played Softball for the Saskatoon Minor Phantom Softball Program, Saskatoon Midget AA Select & the Saskatoon Jr Diamondbacks Softball Program. Kalen also played with the Saskatoon Sr. Diamondbacks for 1 year and then moved on to a Coaching career.  Kalen’s coaching experience has been with the Prince Albert Astros Softball Organization from 2008-2013 and most recently was on the Coaching Staff for Team Saskatchewan at the U21 Men’s International Softball Championship.

Todd McCulloch - Played minor baseball in Moosomin until he was 14 then moved on to men's fastball in Fleming and eventually ended up playing for the Regina Gold Men’s Softball program. Todd was an apprentice coach with Softball Saskatchewan male program for the Canada Games in 2005 and was an assistant coach with Team Saskatchewan Boys program for the Western Canada Summer Games in 2007. In 2011 Todd was the assigned the head Coach of Team Saskatchewan Boys Program that won the Gold Medal at the Western Canada Summer Games. Todd has also been on the Coaching staff of the University of Regina Ladies Softball Program .Todd presently resides in Saskatoon and is presently the Softball Saskatchewan Learning Facilitator and oversees Minor Softball Clinics across Saskatchewan

Sean Lahaye - Sean grew up playing minor Baseball in Prince Albert with the White Sox before playing for the Saskatoon Braves, and as a teenage and  was a Atlanta Braves prospect in the Braves organization.. Sean made the transition to fastball in 1996 after coaching Team Saskatchewan Baseball program for 3 seasons. Sean has played in the Prince Albert Sportsman Fastball league for the past 15 years and has coached within the Prince Albert Astros Softball program over the past since 2010.
