Big Week of International Fastball Kicks off in Southern Ontario

 

Pele, the great Brazilian soccer legend may have coined the phrase “the beautiful game” to describe the magic of the World Cup, but fastball fans will get a chance to see their own version of the beautiful game when three Men’s National Teams bring some of the world’s greatest players into southern Ontario over the next two weeks. Team Canada, New Zealand Black Sox and the Argentina Men’s National team are all landing at Toronto’s Pearson Airport over the next 5 days and will each embark on a schedule of training camps, skill clinics, exhibition games and tournament action from June 13 through June 29.

 

40 Members of Softball Canada’s Men’s National Team Athlete Pool will be part of a training camp in Brampton from June 13-15, and will travel to Ohsweken, First Nations on Friday June 13 to face the ISC World Champion Hill United Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. Team Canada will follow the much anticipated Hill United battle with a Red vs White inter-squad match at 8:00 p.m. Fans are also welcome to take in Team Canada’s 3 inter-squad games scheduled at South Fletcher Field, Brampton, on Saturday afternoon June 14. The camp wraps up on Sunday June 15.

 

While Team Canada breaks their 3 day camp on Sunday the New Zealand Black Sox will be just arriving. The Black Sox are schedule to land in Toronto at 11:00 p.m. Saturday June 14 and will move directly to Kitchener will they will be based for their 9 day tour.

 

The Black Sox are the reigning ISF World Champions and are splitting their Canadian tour between southern Ontario and both Saskatoon and Calgary in the west. The New Zealanders will see their first action in Stouffville, Ontario on Tuesday June 17 when they face the Scarborough Force in a double header match up. They follow that up in Mississauga, Ontario on Wednesday June 18 when they take on the Toronto Gators and the Mississauga Arrows in another double header event. The Black Sox finish their Ontario swing when they compete in the Hill United Snapper Shoot Out, June 20 – 22 at Lancaster Park in St.Catharine’s Ontario. The opening night of the Shootout features a 9:00 p.m. battle of champions when the ISF champion Black Sox take on the ISC champion Hill United Chiefs.

 

The Argentina Men’s National Team is scheduled to arrive in Toronto early in the morning of Tuesday June 15, and will be based out of Kitchener as well. The ‘boys in blue” will play 10 exhibition games and two tournaments during their 16 tour of the province. What might well be billed as “returning to the games roots tour” the Argentineans will take their fast paced brand of softball to Shakespeare, Ontario on Thursday June 19; Innerkip, Ontario on Monday June 23; Vasey,Ontario on Tuesday June 24, Springfield,Ontario on Wednesday June 25; and wrap up their exhibition tour at Kitchener’s Budd Park on Thursday June 26. The Argentineans are also looking forward to challenging some world class club teams in the Hill United Snapper Shootout June 20-22 and finally the North American Fastpitch Challenge, in Jarvis,Ontario, June 27 – 29. The squad will head back home on Monday June 30.
