Canadian Senior Women’s National Team Set to Compete at General Tire World Cup of Softball IX

(Irvine, California) The Canadian Senior Women’s National Softball Team is set to compete at the 2014 General Tire World Cup of Softball IX in Irvine, California this week (July 7-13). With renovations taking place at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, the event has been moved to Irvine this year.

The event will feature seven national teams who will be competing in a single round robin, including Chinese Taipei, Canada, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, the United States and Venezuela. The top two teams from the round robin will advance to the Gold medal games, while the third place team will take on the winner of a game between the fourth and fifth place teams for the Bronze medal. Canada’s first game will be against Japan at 4:30pm PDT (7:30pm EDT). Live scoring and webstreaming will be available through the event website.

Following the completion of the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX, Team Canada will then return to home soil in Surrey, BC to compete at the Scotiabank Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship from July 15-21. The event – which will be played at Softball City – will feature Canada, Japan, Mexico and the United States, as well as four other international club teams from Spain (Basque Country), the NJCAA All-Stars, the Bloomington Lady Hearts and the White Rock Renegades. Team Canada will open its schedule against the Spain (Basque Country) team at 8:30pm PDT (11:30pm EDT) on July 15. Live scoring and webstreaming will be available through the event website.

Team Canada will also be competing in an exhibition series in Southern Ontario from August 3-8 prior to traveling to Haarlem, Netherlands for the ISF XIV Women’s World Softball Championship, which will take place August 15-24.
