Fawcetts falter late, lose to defending champs at Sr. Canadians

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - Through five innings, it appeared the Charlottetown Razzy's Facwetts and St. Thomas Centennials were going to need extra innings here Thursday night at the 2006 Canadian Sr. Men's softball championship.
However, the defending champion Centennials had other things in mind scoring five times in the next two innings en route tyo a eoprfect 7-0 record with a 8-3 win.
The loss dropped Charlottetown's record to 2-5, and they will face the Vancouver Grey Sox, who many expected to be strong at these nationals, in their first playoff game Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (3:30 p.m. Atlantic).
The two sides each scored three runs in the first inning, and then the bats were silent again until the Centennials, from Ontario, scored two on a two run blast by Brian Harvey (2-for-3) and then had three more scored in the top of the seventh inning. Chris Payne (2-for-3, RBI) drove hme Tim Maccumber in the seventh to add to the run total.
