54th Seattle Invitational @ Fife Men’s Fastpitch Tournament Wrap-up

With the errors and issues of our scoring software the stats and lineups we virtually lost. I'm trying to recover them but it is not looking good.

Open Division-

Play on Saturday started and ended with great games: Bricklen Anderson of the Bandits struck out 17 in a LOSS to JRW’s Joey Robbins who allowed only a bunt single 1-0. Saturday Night ended with a packed beer garden and bleachers watching the California A’s (Tony Mancha) and CR Brewers (Korrey Gareu) in another back and forth game. The Brewers edged out California 3-2 to get the #1 seed in Pool A. The Sooke Loggers were on a roll giving up only 3 runs in 3 games to secure the #1 seed in Pool B.

On Sunday the opening round games went as expected with the top seeds all advancing. Both Semi Final games were low scoring and tight. Cleon’s Auto rallied to upset CR Brewers on a walk off base hit by Kasey Knight with (2) outs off of the closer Korrey Gareu. In the other semi final game Sooke and the A’s battle until the 7th inning tied at 1-1, until the A’s rallied to take the game 3-1 to advance to the Championship.

In the Final Cleon’s hung tight being down by 3, until the 4th inning when the Cal. A’s got rolling and never looked back winning 8-1. Tony Mancha of the A’s was impressive on the mound while Josh Johnson cemented his MVP performance with a pair of home runs.

Lower Division:

The Lower Division kicked off on Friday night AKA Free Beer Garden Friday. Interbay Door won a pair of games in front of a sizable crowd of open players, coaches, and fans. In comparison to the Open Division, the boys in the upper division were putting up some serious runs with almost every game having a total of over 13 runs scored. The high scoring and often close games were highly competitive.. With the Surrey rebels getting the #1 Seed behind pitcher Travis Suzuki. In the final #3 Fleetwood defeated the top seeded Rebels 7-6.

I want to thank all of the managers for organizing, and getting their teams to Fife, Washington this year. This tournament receives a tremendous amount of financial support from the City of Fife Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, and without the managers and players traveling to Fife, the LTAC would not be so supportive- Thank you.

Thank you to all the fans, staff, players, managers, volunteers, ASA, NAFA, Tacoma South Sound Sports Commission, the City of Fife, Fastpitch West, and Al’s Fastball for all of the support in making this a great tournament! Please email me and let me know of anything that could make this tournament better, we are always looking to improve.

A shout out to the Dukes who won the unofficial award of "First Team All Beer Garden"- 2nd year in a row!
