Alvinston Indians win Final League Game

INDIANS WIN FINAL LEAGUE GAME

 

The Alvinston Indians improved to 23-1 on the season, and secured their 22nd straight victory in league play, in their final regular season game on the road in Glencoe.  The Astros held a lead of 4-3, going into the top of the sixth inning, when the Alvinston offence exploded, scoring 5 runs in the sixth inning, going onto win 9-4. 

 

Kyle Crawford got the win in relief of Indians starter Jeff Lyons. Crawford tossed three shutout innings, allowing one hit with 5 strikeouts.  Taylor Degraw suffered the loss for Glencoe in relief of starter Bubba Lilley.  Ryan Gray was 2-4 for Glencoe with two doubles, driving in 3 of Glencoe's 4 runs on the night.  8 Alvinston Indians recorded hits on the evening.  Brad Cooper was 2/3 with 3 RBI's.  Simon Rogers was 2/2 with 2 RBI's and 2 walks.  Joe Triest was 2/2 with a triple, two walks, and an RBI.  Aaron Stocking was 2/4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jamie Shields was 2/5 with a pair of runs scored, while Jeff Lyons was 1/3 with a stolen base and a walk.  Bryan Johnson and Andy Triest were both 1/2 in the win. 

 

The Indians receive a bye through the first round of the playoffs, with their first place finish in the regular season.  Many Indians players will still busy over the next couple weeks.  Best of luck to Bantam player Cole Pavey, who is in Fredericton, New Brunswick at the Canadian Bantam Nationals.  Also, best of luck to Carter Dolbear as he competes at the Ontario Summer Games with the Alvinston Bantam Jr. Indians.  Craig Lyons and Steve Lyons are headed to Irma, Alberta this coming week, for the Canadian Junior Under 21 National Tournament, where they will compete with the Oween Sound Jr. Selects.  Devin Triest, Bryan Johnson, and Travis Pavey will suit up with the Alvinston Jr. Indians at the ISC Under 21 Tournament in Kitchener, along with several other young Junior players in our league, including Taylor Degraw and Alex Ritchie on the Glencoe Astros.  Joe Triest, Jeff Lyons, Aaron Stocking, Kyle Crawford will all suit up with the Kitchener Outlaws at the ISC World Tournament, while Jamie Shields will be with the Kitchener Cubs.  Good luck to all Alvinston Indians players over the next couple of weeks
