North Bay, ON

North Bay once again hosted 32 teams for it's annual Labour Day weekend World Senior Fastball Tournament, and for the second year in a row the Cold Springs Cats prevailed in winning seven consecutive games to win the title.  Friday they started off with a 9-0 win over North Bay Legion and followed that up Saturday morning and afternoon with a 3-0 win over Powassan and a 9-1 win over Espanola.  Saturday night in their opening playoff round they were matched against Casey's of North Bay and managed a 2-0 win.  Sunday morning's quarter final saw them take on Orillia and after falling behind 5-0 after two innings they stormed back to win 9-5.  The semi final with Cobourg was the one they'd been waiting for.  Having lost twice to Cobourg earlier in the year the Cats, were needless to say, a little pumped for this one.  Cold Springs sent Steve Ketchell out to duel with Mike Crawford.  On this day Ketchell wasn't going to be denied as he shut down their formidable lineup (along with some key defence help) as Cold Springs came away with a well earned 2-0 win.  In the final against the Azilda Doghouse Relics from Sudbury, Steve Ketchell once again took the ball and threw a gem winning 3-1 and giving Cold Springs their second consecutive championship.  Afterwards, Cold Springs Manager Ewart Timlin declared they'd be back to go for a third in a row.  It was the Cats third North Bay title having also won in 1996.  Congratulations to the Cold Springs crew consisting of  Mike Racioppo, Mike McCaw, Rob Ellis, Mike O'Hearn, Roger Cole, Gary Vowles, Dave O'Connell, Steve Ketchell, Jeff Brown, Paul Goodfellow, Steve Parker, Darren Crowter, Mark Tyson, Sammy Forbes, Keith Woodman (Final MVP), and Manager Ewart Timlin.
