Brandon Horn hit Robbie Greene’s second pitch of the game over the fence.

The Charlottetown John Brown Grille Fawcetts mustered only two more hits the rest of the way in an 8-1 loss to Kelly’s Pub on Thursday. Both teams concluded the round robin of the Canadian senior men’s fast pitch championship 3-3.

“We just move on,” Fawcetts first baseman Mark Arsenault said.

“Those guys in there are veteran ball players and we know we just have to put it out of our heads and get ready for tomorrow.”

The St. John’s, N.L., team responded with two runs in the top of the second on a Stephen Jesso home run on a wet and windy night at Central Field. They added one in the third, two in the fourth and three in the seventh.

Greene settled in after the first, allowing only a single to Horn in the third inning. He struck out 15 relying on his dropball.

He said the victory was big for the team to get back to .500 entering playoffs.

“We were pretty flat yesterday and the start of today, so we really needed a win here to get rolling going into the playoffs,” he said.

Andy Skelton took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits. He struck out six and walked two. Mitch Hardy gave up three runs on four hits in three innings of relief. He struck out four and walked two.

Geoff Evely had three hits while Jesso and Mark Lewis both homered and singled. Greene added a double while Bryan Abrey, Stephen Strapp and Dan Mitchell each singled.

Arsenault said it has to play better defence and put the ball in play more as the tournament enters the bigger games.

“I think our best ball we have is ahead of us,” he said. “We have some big money players and we’ll be ready.”
