Alvinston Indians Take Game 1 Of ST Thomas League Finals

September 23, 2014

Alvinston, ON

INDIANS GRAB EARLY SERIES LEAD

After game one was canceled last night in Alvinston due to rain, the Indians traveled to Fingal for game one of the St. Thomas & Districtt Major Fastball League Playoff Championship series on Monday evening.  A strong crowd was on hand to enjoy game one, in what will certainly be a great series.

Alvinston opened the scoring early in the opening inning, as Joe Triest singled to lead off the game, while Craig Luons reached base via a walk.  Jamie Shields then reached first via a fielder's choice, to put runners on first and second with one out.  Ryan Chapman then singled up the middle to score Lyons.  Aaron Sotkcing did the same and singled to score Shields for an early 2-0 lead.

In the second inning, with one out, Andy Triest reached base via an error, stole second base, and then scored on an RBI double by Joe Triest. Consecutive doubles by both Lyons and Shields scored Joe Triest for a 4-0 lead, and then Ryan Chapman added a second RBI in the contest, when he plated Shields for what was a 5-0 lead.

In the third inning, Bryan Johnson walked for the Indians with one out, and he promptly stole second base.  Devin Triest then came to the dish and smacked an RBI single to score Johnson for the sixth Indians run.

In the bottom of the third inning, St. Thomas had an opportunity to get back in the game, when Gould singled, Kevin Lynch singled, and Mark Coleman walked to load the bases with one out; but Indians starter Kyle Crawford had other plans, as he retired the next two hitters via the strikeout to end the inning.

Crawford was sharp the rest of the way, as he pitched seven innings of shutout ball, allowing no runs on three hits, with two walks, and 15 strikeouts.  Kevin Lynch had two of the three hits for St. Thomas.  Ryan Cummings came in in relief of Dan Beecroft, and was sharp for the Storm for the rest of the game, keeping the score at 6-0 for Alvinston, which was the final score.

Game two goes Thursday night in Alvinston at 7:30pm.
