Bracebridge Mens League wrapup..

September 24, 2014

Bracebridge, ON

The 2014 edition of Bracebridge Mens Fastball League wrapped up late last week with all the Division championships being decided in one night.

In the C Division Championship, after losing the opener, State Farm Insurance crawled back to even the series at 1 game apiece last Tuesday. Thursday was the rubber match as BC North Electrics pitcher Steve Clairmont faced State Farms Duncan McDonald. This game was close early, but State Farm had a couple of timely hits with men on, culminating on a 3 run homer by McDonald, to win the C Championship, with a 10-8 win. McDonald, with 2 great pitcging performances, won the C Division MVP.

In the B Division championship, it was winner take all, as Bills Pizza faced off against Festing Toyota. A shorthanded pitching staff by Festing, forced a start by Glen Jutris, as he managed to hold Bill’s to 8 runs. This game however, was the emergence of Festing’s timely hitting, with men on base, with 2 out, as they had a 6 run inning with 2 out. Bill’s made it interesting, as they had the tying, and winning runs in scoring position, but couldn’t get them across for the win, making the final 9-8 for Festing Toyota. Jutris also picked up the B Division MVP, as he was instrumental in Festings B Division Championship.

A Division seen the return of a veteran squad back to the top tier in the League, as Boston Pizza made it back to A Division after a lengthy absence.

Black Dog Farm was the team to beat going into the last night(potentially). The Farm had to defeat a game squad from Griffin Pub, who were already eliminated, to win the A Division title. While, the other game pitted Boston Pizza vs Co-Operators, with the winner potentially playing The Farm for the title if they lost to Griffin. Co-Operators took care of their end, as their bats exploded and walked to a 9-3 win, with Mike Crawford on the mound. Black Dog Farm had all they could handle in their game with Griffin, as it was close early. Alex Nelson led their late surge hitting, and Ted Conway held the rest of Griffin off the scoresheet on the mound as they won the A Division championship with a 7-2 win, and make Co-Operators win a moot point. Nelson was named the A Division MVP, for his hitting, especially in the clinching hit in a 1-0 “semi final”win over Co-Operators.

This A Division Championship, was Black Dog Farm’s 3rd straight, and put their record since 2012, to an astounding 54-6!
