theswitchMONEYBALL Full Entertainment Schedule: Fun for Young and Old!

September 29, 2014

Ipswich, Queensland, Australia

theswitchMONEYBALL isn’t all about showcasing some of the best fastpitch softball talent in the world. We have a number of initiatives to have everyone entertained and involved over the weekend of October 10-12, 2014.

At 9am on Saturday there will be an opportunity to “Sit With A Steeler” and have a game broken down and discussed in real time by one of our best Australian Steelers players. Whether it be a discussion on the tactical or the technical aspects of fastpitch softball at the elite level- the “Sit With A Steeler” section will provide an opportunity to pick the brain of one of our best.

The “Aussie Steelers Coaching Clinics” will provide a forum for our elite men’s players to provide an insight into playing at the highest level and for players to provide their playing tips to help achieve this. There will be three clinics over the weekend focusing on pitching, fielding, and hitting and running and all clinics will be run by elite players, will be completely free, and welcome for all age groups to attend. Aussie Steelers Coaching Clinics will be on at 11am and 1pm on Saturday, and 9am Sunday.

Talent from yesteryear will also be on display over the weekend. Saturday afternoon at 3pm will showcase the theswitchMONEYBALL “Legends Of Fastball” Masters Exhibition Match between the Brisbane based PK Pride and the “Masters All Stars” team. Always a formidable force PK Pride have one of the most impressive line-ups going round with many ex-Black Sox and greats amongst their ranks- Murray McLean, Fabian Barlow, Craig Gibson and Gavin Aiken  to name just a few.

The “Masters All Stars” team will bring together some of our best Masters players. Co-coached and scored by significant contributors to the local scene Maurice Paraha, Joe Holt and Ngaire Huston respectively, and with the likes of Geoff Michel, Laing Harrow Robbie Swaney and Benny Trindle lining up, theswitchMONEYBALL “Legends Of Fastball” Masters Exhibition Match will certainly be jam packed with excitement and hopefully some retro uniforms! The game also provides an opportunity to farewell one of our most influential umpires into retirement along with welcoming back a few classic blues to the diamond. Be sure not to miss this nostalgic and fun filled event!

Straight after the “Legends Of Fastball” Masters Exhibition Match the $1000 Plus Fitness 24/7 Windsor Home Run Derby will be where the most powerful hitters will slug it out for the biggest ever individual prize dished out to a softball player to our knowledge! The home run hitting machines from each team will be lining up from 5:15pm Saturday to battle it out for the prize, and juniors will be able to be involved as bat boys for each hitter. If you are anywhere within 500 feet of diamond one, you are advised to keep your eyes peeled, and your glove ready!

There will be free face painting and a jumping castle all Saturday for the kids and a great selection of food and drinks including fresh wood fired pizzas. For the adults, “The Beach” will be the social hub over the weekend. Think sand. Think sun.. Think fun in the famous Queensland sun! With a soon to be announced sponsor, “The Beach” will be the place to catch up after a game and quench a hard earned thirst. And what beach would be complete without some beach cricket, frisbee and pumping tunes??? And for when the sun goes down- you might want to familiarise yourself with the official rules of “washer toss”: http://www.washers.org/rules/.

Additionally, there will be “Local Legends” games spread over Saturday and Sunday. The “Local Legends” teams that will be lining up will include the Ipswich based Tigers and Warriors and the Brisbane Blue Sox who will be touching up their skills and getting involved in the event, showing us their efficient best!

Just before the grand final the “Legends In The Making” will give our tiny tee ball players the chance to battle it on the main diamond. Scheduled to commence at 1pm Sunday, just before the 1:30pm grand final, the “Legends In The Making” will be your chance to spot a future great of our sport, and will no doubts provide some lasting memories from those involved.
