Norris, Gammie & MacCallum named Durham College athletes of the week

OSHAWA, Ont. – Ryan Norris, Kayla Gammie and Sam MacCallum have been named the Durham College student-athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending October 5.

Norris, a second-year biomedical engineering technology major, recorded 14 strikeouts in a 10-2 victory over the Seneca Sting. The win clinched a spot for Durham in the OCAA championship that is being held in Oshawa from October 17-18. The 14 k’s by Norris is the highest total in the OCAA in the first two years of the league.

Gammie, a second-year child and youth worker major, had a seven RBI performance against Mohawk, which surpassed the previous OCAA record of six that was matched 12 times since Kellie Hinnells set the benchmark in 1993. The Guelph native knocked off former Durham Lords Kathy Glen (2005), Sheena Viner (2005) and Eric Dewey (2010) who also shared the record.

MacCallum, a first-year protection and security major, also had an OCAA record breaking performance as she scored six times in the Lords’ win over Mohawk. The previous record of five runs was held by three former Durham Lords including Amanda McArthur (2006), Erin Dewey (2008) and Erica Dewey (2008).
