Durham College softball set for nationals
CALGARY, Alta. – After closing out their regular season with a 12-7 victory over the Conestoga Condors on Wednesday night, the Durham College women’s softball team has turned their attention to the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) National Championship. The three-day championship will be hosted by the University of Calgary at Shouldice Athletic Park and will run from October 11-13.
This will be the Lords fifth straight appearance at the national championship with their best result coming in 2012, when the team reached the national finals and earned a silver medal. Prior to that season, the Lords earned back-to-back bronze medals and a fifth place finish. Last year, Durham struggled on the national stage dropping all four games played.
The top eight college and university teams from across the country will compete for the national title. Durham will be in pool B which includes St. Clair College, the University of Calgary and the University of Saskatchewan. Pool A includes the Western University, the University of Regina, Humber College and SAIT.
Durham’s first game on the tournament is set to take place on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. (EST) against the hosting Calgary Dinos.
First pitch for the national finals is scheduled for 2 p.m. (EST) on Monday..
