Applications sought for Commissioner with South Carolina ASA/USA Softball

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball, a volunteer driven, not-for-profit organization, is seeking applicants for the position of Commissioner for the South Carolina ASA/USA Softball association. The opening comes available following the retirement of former South Carolina ASA Commissioner Gerald McDonald, who served 14 years as the commissioner.

The ASA/USA Softball Commissioner is a volunteer position with ASA/USA Softball and should be an individual who is interested in serving as the principal liaison between the local South Carolina association and the ASA/USA National Office in Oklahoma City. Those interested in the complete duties of an ASA/USA Softball Commissioner may review them on the ASA website at under the About ASA section, Code/Rule Changes, then 2014 ASA Procedural Manual Article 105. Click here to view.

A panel will interview and make their recommendation of a temporary commissioner to the ASA/USA Board of Directors for confirmation. After serving a minimum of six months and no later than the ASA/USA Annual Meeting in November, the Commissioner's Appointment Committee will review the performance of the commissioner and make a recommendation of interim or permanent status to the ASA Board of Directors.

The ASA was founded in 1933 and has evolved into the strongest softball organization in the country. The growth and development of the association led the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to name the ASA as the National Governing Body of Softball, pursuant to the Amateur Sports Act of 1978.
