Storm's Fury took game 3 from Red Hot Chili Pepper to win the NFMFL finals 3-0. Final score last night was 4-1 behind a great pitching performance from Rich Vassos. Fury's Phil John smacked a homerun in the first inning but the Pepper got that one back in the fourth on a two out single from Craig Smith. The Fury took control in the bottom of the fifth after a 30 minute rain delay. Mark Korten opened the inning reaching base on a error. Phil John's bunt single eventually scored along with Korten when Adam Dearborne laced a double in the alley. Tommy Watkinson drove Dearborne home with a double of his own. That was all Vassos needed as he finished up with a three hitter. Andy Hicks pitched well in the loss. The Fury took game two earlier this week. The Fury jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning, Rob Greatrix gapped a two out triple and Adam Dearborne followed up with a run scoring double down the third base line. That was all the scoring until the Fury broke it open in a three run fifth. Ray Carr opened the inning with a shot over the centre field fence and Mark Korten followed with a single, Tom Watkinson drew a walk and both would later score on a Scott Wagar single. That was all the scoring as the Fury would wind up 4-0 winners. Wagar had it going as he threw a 2 hitter and struck out 17. Andy Hicks again pitched well in the loss and Pete Kucharek and Jeff Kraneyk had hits for the Pepper.

The league has one final piece of business, it's annual awards banquet which will be held at one of our sponsors, Beam Me Up Scotties, on Saturday October 21st, 7:00 pm.
Awards for league and playoff most valuable players and pitchers will be handed out along with awards for some statistical leaders. Two very special new awards will be handed out in memory of Janet Greatrix and Rusty Dekker, two longtime members of the NFMFL fastball family who passed away this year..

On behalf of the league, thanks to all who have passed through Ker Park this year. Also thanks to all the fans, volunteers, team reps and executive for another exciting year in the Falls. Special thanks to Blair Setford and all our friends from all the teams in the GHFL for providing the NFMFL with the opportunity to play some of the best fastball teams in the area, all our teams in the NFMFL are honoured to be part of the association.  Very special thanks to the Niagara Falls Review and the St Catharine’s Standard for their support in reporting league activities.
