Athletes arrive in Irvine, Calif. for National Team Selection Camps

IRVINE, Calif. – Athletes from across the country are heading to Irvine, Calif. to attend the USA Softball National Team Selection Camps the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America/USA Softball announced today.  Held at Bill Barber Park, the Junior Women's National Team (JWNT), the Women's National Team (WNT) and Men's Fast Pitch National Team (MNT) will hold their respective tryouts for their 2015 rosters.  Attendees will participate in a selection process as well as simulated games and will be evaluated by the Women’s National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC) and Men's National Team Selection Committee (MNTSC) for a chance to represent the U.S..

The Selection Camps kicked off on January 2 as over 100 athletes from over 25 states participated in an open tryout for the 2015 JWNT.  Athletes were evaluated by members of the WNTSC, as well as the coaching staff for both the WNT and JWNT with the top athletes receiving an invitation to participate at the USA Softball JWNT Selection Camp January 3-4.

Those selected will join the 27 athletes who received an invitation to attend the JWNT Selection Camp.  Following the conclusion of the camp, seventeen athletes will be selected by members of the USA Softball WNTSC to represent the United States as a member of the 2015 JWNT roster that will compete at the World Cup of Softball X in June 29-July 5, 2015 in Southern California and the International Softball Federation (ISF) Junior Women's World Championship, which will be held August 9-15 in Oklahoma City, Okla. at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex.

Following the conclusion of the JWNT Selection Camp, 33 athletes will attend the USA Softball Women's National Team (WNT) Selection Camp January 5-7, also held at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif.

These athletes will vie for 17 spots on the 2015 WNT roster that will compete at the World Cup of Softball X and a spot on the 15-athlete roster that will compete in the 2015 Pan American Games, which will be held July 15-26 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

 

At the conclusion of the WNT Selection Camp, 27 athletes will attend the USA Softball Men's National Team (MNT) Selection Camp January 9-10, also held at Bill Barber Park.  Attendees will vie for 17 spots on the 2015 USA Softball Men’s National Team (MNT) roster that will compete at the International Softball Federation (ISF) Men's World Championship in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and a spot on the 15-athlete roster that will compete in the 2015 Pan American Games, which will be held July 15-26 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
