OKLAHOMA CITY — The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), softball’s world governing body, announced today the game schedule for the 16-nation WBSC XIV Men’s World Championship, scheduled to take place June 26 - July 5 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.  The 14th edition of the Men's World Championship will feature a total of 73 games, 56 by way of pool play action, followed by playoff games.

The 16 teams that will compete are:  Argentina, Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Great Britain, Guatemala, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, USA and Venezuela.

Placed into Pool B, Team USA will open up play against Mexico at 3 p.m. CT on Friday, June 26 just prior to opening ceremonies.  Remaining pool play games will be against the Dominican Republic, Japan, Netherlands, Venezuela, Australia and Denmark.  The Red, White and Blue will face tough competition in round-robin action as Venezuela and Australia finished second and third, respectively, at the last WBSC Men's World Championship in 2013.  Seeding into the playoff rounds will be based off round robin standings.

 

Led by Head Coach Denny Bruckert (Gillespie, Ill.), the roster for the 2015 USA Softball Men's National Team was announced in January following a Men's National Team Selection Camp in Irvine, Calif.  The 17 athletes that will represent the United States can be found at USASoftball.com. 

 

Team USA is looking to improve upon their eighth-place finish at the last WBSC Men's World Championship, which was held in Auckland, New Zealand in 2013.  Team USA went 4-3 in pool play to earn a spot in the playoff rounds, but dropped a 9-2 decision to Argentina in the first round.
