Hall of Fame Class of 2015 Announced

 

The voting is done and the votes counted. The South Dakota ASA Hall of Fame Committee is proud to announce the new inductees for 2015.  The inductees are as follows:

Cam Lind of Sioux Falls SD is being inducted as a player/coach and sponsor. Cam has been associated with fastpitch softball for over 40 years. Cam has played, coached and sponsored many teams as well as served on local softball boards over the years. He also has organized many tournaments and local leagues. He is a great ambassador of fastpitch softball.

Mark Mancuso  of Sioux Fallswill be inducted as a local and state officer. While Mark played and coached men’s slowpitch, he was a league Vice President for 8 years and then was President of the Sioux Falls league for 15 years. Under Mark’s leadership the men’s league grew in numbers. He was also men’s area commissioner for 15 years assisting in many state tournaments. He was instrumental in planning for Harmadon Park in Sioux Falls.
 
Willard Schumack of Sioux Falls SD started umpiring in 1973. He umpired both fastpitch and slowpitch, youth, men’s and women’s. He umpired in 45 ASA, NAFA and ISC national tournaments. He also umpired numerous state and local ASA tournaments. He is a Gold level umpire and has his National indicator award.
 
Monica Meendering is being inducted as a women’s slowpitch player from Sioux Falls. Monica is one of the best women’s players to play in South Dakota. She has played in the top leagues of both fastpitch and slowpitch. Batted over .625 for 23 years also hitting 500+ home runs. She was instrumental in her teams winning 10 state titles and 2 regional titles. Not only known for hitting, but also her excellent play at shortstop. Monica’s leadership and dedication was well respected by her teammates and her opponents.
 
Rick Lang of Sioux Falls SD was one of the most dominant fastpitch pitchers in the nation in the 1990’s. He played with the Sioux Falls Chiefs and a few regional teams that played and placed in many national tournaments. Was named to the all decade team at the 2002 NAFA World Series. Not only a player, but also coached and sponsored teams.
 
Jim ‘Ruby’ Koehler of Aberdeen SD has played 12”, 14”, and 16” slowpitch softball for over 40 years. He is the driving force behind the Aberdeen Last Chance and Circus softball teams. Jim hit for power and average. Has played on state, regional and national championship teams. Success on the field was a given, but his respect for the game and promotion of it is to be admired by all.
 
Ross Gascoigne SR of Sioux Falls was constantly involved in something regarding softball. He created a drag to make sure all 3 field as Pat Wyman field (The Waterworks) were playable. Ross started women’s fastpitch in Sioux Falls and also coached the powerhouse KIOH Cubs team. He also coached the men’s team Bull Pen Bar for a few years. He did whatever was called for in advancing the sport.
