Since making its debut on the Pan American Games program in 1979, softball has been a long-time favorite with the U.S. Women's National Team claiming the Gold eight times while the U.S. Men have finished runner-up in each Pan American Games appearance. The Pan American Games are held every four years and marks the only multi-sport event that USA Softball participates in internationally. In their last Pan American Games appearance in 2003 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the Men's Fast Pitch National Team earned a silver medal after falling to Canada 4-0 in the Championship Game. The Women's National Team will be defending their Gold Medal finish at the 2011 Pan American Games, which were held in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Women went undefeated throughout the 2011 Pan American Games and won the Gold Medal with an 11-1 (four inning) win over Canada.
