The Golden Homes Black Sox have had a successful start in the build-up stage of their pursuit for a seventh world title. The team began the first leg of their journey in Calgary, where they spent time acclimatising, recovering and training.
The Black Sox played two warm-up games against a local side, the Calgary Sox winning both games comfortably 8-0 with an impressive offensive display.
Notable hitters were Brad Rona, who batted .1000 with three hits, and Thomas Enoka, who hit an automatic homerun in his opening at bat and batted in a total of five RBI's.
Over the weekend the team competed in the Stampede City Invitational tournament against local club teams from Saskatchewan and Edmonton. The Black Sox raked in a massive 58 runs for and only one against; with the team homerun total now well into double digits.
The Black Sox retained the title for a second year in a row, defeating the Petro Golden Hawks 4-0 in the final. Nik Hayes was impressive on the mound, where he struck out 13 from 28 batters faced and only allowed four hits.
Joel Evans featured in his first full game since injuring himself in the opening match of the campaign. He put the Black Sox on the board in the fifth inning with an automatic homerun and punched in two RBI's.
The Black Sox are now into the second leg of their tour, which began with a long drive from Calgary to Kelowna. The side will spend their time training and will play a double header against a local All Stars team.
