"We didn't take Mexico lightly after they beat us 2-1 in Argentina last fall," said Head Coach Denny Bruckert (Gillespie, Ill.).  "We put a lot of preparation in and I really saw the bats start coming alive after our tournament in Quebec. The guys got in some good batting practice yesterday which showed today.  We have a lot of good at bats and made some really great defensive plays.  Tony pitched a great game and Frank did well behind the plate.  Now it's time to focus on the Dominican Republic."

Team USA jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, scoring six runs through the first three innings.  Both sides were held silent through the first inning, but that would change in the top of the second as Frank DeGroat (Ringwood, N.J.) reached on a walk and then advanced to third base on a single by Bogach.  Nick Mullins (Toms River, N.J.) put the U.S. on the board with a single to left field before a walk to Pat Sagdal (Richland, Wash.) loaded the bases.  Chris Miljavic (Easton, Mo.) plated another two runs for Team USA with a ground ball to second to give the Red, White and Blue an early 3-0 lead.

Tony Mancha (Las Cruces, N.M.) got the start for the U.S. in the circle and continued to stifle the Mexican batters through two innings of play.  Team USA would add to their lead in the top of the third inning after Josh Johnson (El Paso, Texas) reached on a walk and advanced to third base on a fly ball from Chase Turner (San Diego, Calif.).  With two on and two outs, Bogach came up big with a two-run RBI single to center field.  After three innings of play, Team USA held a 6-0 lead.

Both sides were silent until the top of the sixth inning when USA plated another run after a sac-fly from Matt Palazzo (Pleasant Hill, Iowa).  Mancha kept Mexico off the board in the bottom half of the frame, giving the U.S. a 7-0, shutout run-rule victory.

"Everyone really chipped in today," said Nick Mullins.  "There wasn't one hole in our lineup today, and that makes it easy for a real good pitcher like Mancha."

Mancha kept Mexico off the board through all six innings of work, picking up nine strikeouts while only issuing four hits and two walks.  For his efforts, Mancha picked up his first career WBSC World Championship win.  Eduardo Escobedo took the loss for Mexico, lasting just two and one-third innings with four walks and five earned runs.

Up next for the U.S. is an 11:30 a.m. CT matchup against the Dominican Republic.  Fans at home can follow along with live stats and live streaming for the entire WBSC Men's World Championship at www.ASAUSASoftball.com.
