August2012

Ed McCormick Hall of Fame tournament in Erie PA, Aug 3-5, 2012

August 7, 2012

Erie, PA

The SCHEDULE AND RESULTS PAGE is here!

We will also be using  both Twitter  - watch for #Erie2012  and NEWS-2 from the ball park.

Arrived in Erie at 7pm thanks in large measure to the two hour line up on the bridge into the USA then the traffic tie up on the I-90 west.

Settled into the Avalon and headed to the park where a good sized crowd was out to see the first two games of the tournament.

Very impressed with the play of the young Argentina Juniors who held Midland to a 3-3 tie into the 7th and it took the Explorers the extra inning to defeat the young team from South America.

Argentina also played very well in the second game, maybe they did not know that the NY Gremlins are so highly rated. It was a fun game to watch.

I hope to have the game sheets for Games 1 and 2 in the morning, they were not ready when I left the park but I have been promised them for Sat morning.

Game 1 6-3 Midland over Argentina. Game 2 4-0  New York Gremlins over Argentina. Game 1 Dustin Veenhof WP Martin Gonzalez LP   Veenhof 4 IP in relief of Grant Patterson.
For Argentina Huemul Mata 5 1/3 IP, Pablo Masmu 2/3 IP, Franco Gina 1 IP and Martin Gonzalez 1 IP THE 8TH iNNIN

Game 2
Pablo Migliavacca for ARGENTINA.  Juan Potolicchio 3 IP Starting  Bill Hillhouse 4 IP for the Win.

Game sheets coming to me slow and steady all day Saturday but often I had to go back to the hotel to just type up 1 or 2 while other times I was handed 4 at a time to take back and upload.  Thanks for everyone's patience.

It was a very very hot and humid day in the ballpark with lots of dust as the wind was blowing all day.

The score keepers I am working with are great, its easy to read their writing and they are adding in lots of comments on the big hits etc.

10:30pm Sat night and the final game is just getting started. I have a big decision to make and I made it. I abandoned the last game to come back to the hotel to type up the 4 game summary sheets just turned over to me.

As the final game tonight will not impact the final standings as far as playoffs go, I will wait until Sunday to record that final score, unless somone emails or tweets it to me.

NOTE: there was no game sheet for the game between Kitchener Cubs and Midland Explorers. The game ended early when a Cub batter was hit by a pitch from the Midland pitcher. The umpires in discussion with the managers of the two teams decided to call the game. Cubs were ahead at the time. The Midland pitcher called out to "watch out" when he lost control of the pitch. No harm was intended. That is all I was given on the incident.  AD
